Five Essential Freebie Applications

I am a huge reader of blogs that has anything to do with technology so it never surprises me to see a list compiled by the blogger of their top applications that they recommend or even use themselves. Regardless of whether these bloggers use these application themselves, I am here to tell you that the applications that I will mentioned have been tested out on both of my computers at home and I am proud and happy to say that I am very please with these applications. Who says something great can’t be free?!

These top five applications are in no particular order so don’t assume that the item that is number 1 on my list is my favorite and vice versa.

AVG Anti-Virus

I’m not necessarily advocating a free anti-virus program over a paid version but I say if a free program does the same thing for free, I am more than willing to not spend the $50-60 on a paid program.

The free version of AVG offers the basic anti-virus program whereas if you upgraded to a paid version you would also get the benefit of having other features such as:

  • Anti-Rootkit
  • Anti-Spam
  • Firewall
  • Safe Downloads
  • Safe Instant Messaging
  • Safe Search
  • Safe Surf
  • Free Support

CCleaner is a free system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. The purpose of CCleaner is to remove unused files from your system…which in the long run allows your computer to run faster and it frees up valuable space on your hard drive. CCleaner also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet History. It also contains a fully featured registry cleaner.

Glary Utilities

Glary Utilities is one freeware program that has mentioned previously in this blog and for good reason.

Glary Utilities:

  • Optimize, clean and boost the speed of Windows.
  • Protect your privacy and security.
  • Block spyware, trojans and adware.
  • Fix certain application errors.
  • Simple, fast and User Friendly interface.

Revo Uninstaller

Revo Uninstaller helps you in removing unwanted programs installed on your computer even if you have trouble uninstalling and cannot remove them from the “Windows Add or Remove Programs” control panel. I have started using Revo Uninstaller as my main place to go to remove any unwanted programs. For me it has worked a whole lot better than the Windows component.

WinPatrol offers a “Swiss Army knife” approach to protecting and tuning your Windows system. Scotty (this application’s mascot) keeps an eye on process, services, start-up programs, IE helpers, Imhosts along with a few others.
