I am a huge reader of blogs that has anything to do with technology so it never surprises me to see a list compiled by the blogger of their top applications that they recommend or even use themselves. Regardless of whether these bloggers use these application themselves, I am here to tell you that the applications that I will mentioned have been tested out on both of my computers at home and I am proud and happy to say that I am very please with these applications. Who says something great can’t be free?!
These top five applications are in no particular order so don’t assume that the item that is number 1 on my list is my favorite and vice versa.
I’m not necessarily advocating a free anti-virus program over a paid version but I say if a free program does the same thing for free, I am more than willing to not spend the $50-60 on a paid program.
The free version of AVG offers the basic anti-virus program whereas if you upgraded to a paid version you would also get the benefit of having other features such as:
- Safe Downloads
- Safe Instant Messaging
- Safe Search
- Safe Surf
- Free Support

I have started using Revo Uninstaller as my main place to go to remove any unwanted programs. For me it has worked a whole lot better than the Windows component.
WinPatrol offers a “Swiss Army knife” approach to protecting and tuning your Windows system. Scotty (this application’s mascot) keeps an eye on process, services, start-up programs, IE helpers, Imhosts along with a few others.
